2022/23 orange crop in SP and MG ends with a 19.5% increase

The citrus region concentrates the main industries of orange juice in Brazil, the largest global exporter of the commodity.

The 2022/23 orange harvest in the citrus area of São Paulo and Minas Gerais was estimated at 314.21 million boxes of 40.8 kg, a slight decrease compared to the forecast for February (316.23 million boxes), according to a survey by Fundecitrus released this Monday (10).

Even so, Fundecitrus pointed out that production surpassed by 19.49% that of the previous season (2021/22), which was severely impacted by a combination of drought and frost, resulting in a drastic reduction in the volume harvested.

“Due to the atypical weather conditions of the past harvest, the most appropriate comparison is with the average volume produced over the last ten years. In this context, the production of the current harvest matches the historical average, with an insignificant difference of +0.24%”, pondered Fundecitrus in a note.
